A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a nation grappling with entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the city centre on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Officials stated the 40-year-old presenter was approached by three suspects, with one began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.
The reason behind the incident remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, as per the official statement.
Law enforcement said that Stock was ambushed as he was leaving a premises close to the city center landmark.
He had been present for hours at the property supervising the implementation of security systems, which had been reportedly taken over by unknown people, as per local media.
"The report indicates the man was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before escaping on foot," an official report stated.
Security camera video reportedly depicted a individual with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what looked like a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before running away.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was hit but collapsed across the street.
Officials noted that Stock had an weapon on his person and no items were stolen during the assault.
