Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed operations across the region in retaliation for a significant and ongoing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is unclear and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - stated they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on Iran carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That initial attack - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the government.
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a series of missiles," it added.
It said missile fragments landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
