The network's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Extension for Two More Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often defined by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and supported its uniquely offbeat style.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this lovable family navigate their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing cynical streak. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
